- Alcohol abuse has been determined to be the primary factor in at least one third of all drowning incidents throughout the United States each year.
- What is binge drinking? According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism binge drinking is defined as a pattern of alcohol consumption that brings the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level to 0.08% or more. This pattern of drinking usually corresponds to 5 or more drinks on a single occasion for men or 4 or more drinks on a single occasion for women, generally within about 2 hours.
- Alcoholism has no prejudices. It can affect anyone regardless of their race, socio- economic background, religion or education.
- An average sized woman would have to drink 10-14 beers or glasses of wine within a relatively short period of time to reach the lethal blood alcohol concentration of 0.4%.
