- The risk of hemorrhagic stroke is three times higher among heavy drinkers.
- What is binge drinking? According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism binge drinking is defined as a pattern of alcohol consumption that brings the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level to 0.08% or more. This pattern of drinking usually corresponds to 5 or more drinks on a single occasion for men or 4 or more drinks on a single occasion for women, generally within about 2 hours.
- A 2009 survey among high school students found that 42% drank some amount of alcohol, 24% binge drank, 10% drove after drinking alcohol and 28% rode with a driver who had been drinking alcohol in the past 30 days.
- Studies show that children of alcoholic parents are at greater risk than other children of becoming alcoholics.
