  • How Many Tweens and Teens Are Drinking? Not as many as a lot of them believe and tell each other. The rate of current alcohol use among youth ages 12 to 17 was 15.9 percent in 2007. That means 84.1 percent, or more than four out of five students, did not use alcohol.
  • In 2007, an estimated 12 percent of persons aged 12 or older drove under the influence of alcohol at least once in the past year; this percentage has dropped slightly since 2002, when it was 12.8 percent.
  • Of the 1.8 million admissions for treatment of alcohol and drug abuse in 2008, 41.4% involved alcohol abuse.
  • It takes at least a hour for the average person to burn up the alcohol in one standard drink.
